Welcome to the Altar Society!

Altar Society is a community where all women of St Mary’s gather to make a significant impact on our parish and community. Beyond the rituals, our focus is on building connections, offering support, nurturing spiritual growth, and actively contributing to our parish and the broader community.

Our regular gatherings, held the second Thursday of January, March, May, September and November in the Knights Hall, provide more than just meetings. They offer an opportunity to unwind, share stories, and be part of something larger than ourselves.

Altar Society, true to its name, is an organization dedicated to the care of our Altar and our parish family. Our service-oriented activities include laundering altar cloths and server robes, as well as helping to maintain the cleanliness of the church. We fund essential elements of Mass, including the bread and wine, sanctuary and adoration chapel candles, altar servers’ robes, and vestments for Father.

We take pride in performing the corporal work of mercy by hosting funeral dinners for grieving families. While we don't charge for these dinners, we appreciate donations, which, along with our annual membership dues of $15.00 and Scrip sales, help pay for altar expenses and support the building fund.

Our organization is not just about work; it's a chance to form meaningful relationships. Currently divided into five Guilds, Altar Society allows us to rotate hosting various activities, from general meetings to special events such as ice cream for the Parish Picnic. Each guild supports a diocesan charity by hosting events like the Bunco Bash, Cookie Extravaganza, Breakfast with Santa, the Nativity Raffle, and Lenten Soup Suppers. The Lord’s Diner, Gerard House, Harbor
House, St. Anthony Family Shelter and Dear Neighbor Ministries all benefit from the generosity of St. Mary Altar Society and its members.

Every adult woman in the parish is considered a member of Altar Society. Guild membership is not required; you can decide your level of involvement. We invite you to participate in service activities, meetings, or any events that interest you.

While it may seem like we're all about work, Altar Society provides a space for women to interact spiritually, socially, and through service – building lifelong friendships with women of all ages. Consider attending one of our meetings and discover how you can become an active member of St. Mary Altar Society.
