Welcome to the Health Room!

Here at St. Mary, we have several students and teachers with chronic illnesses that require special attention to germ prevention. This is just a note to remind you about some healthy practices that will, in the long run, keep your child from becoming ill. We realize that most of you are aware of these healthy practices and this will come as a friendly reminder.

Reasons to keep a child home from school:

  1. Fever-Any temp. of 100 degrees or above. Your child must be fever-free without medication for 24 hours before returning to school.
  2. Vomiting and/or diarrhea-Your child must not have had an episode of vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
  3. Colds and nasal discharge-If your child has a new cold or a runny nose with lots of uncontrollable green or yellow discharge, please keep him or her home.
  4. Rashes-Unidentified rashes should be checked by your doctor. A note from your doctor should be sent to school, identifying the rash and any treatment necessary.
  5. If your child has been diagnosed with a communicable disease (ex. – strep throat, pink eye, etc.) and is on antibiotics, they must have been taking the medication for 24 hours before coming back.
  6. We appreciate a phone call to the office if your child is going to be absent because of illness or appointment, etc. This provides the teacher with information to plan the school day.
